April 15, 2015: To cut or not to cut… The radiographic approach to the vomiting patient

To cut or not to cut? That is the question! Having a hard time deciding whether or not that loop of bowel is too dilated or not? Not sure if your patient is obstructed? In this 1.5-hour VETgirl, online veterinary CE webinar, Dr. Matt Winter reviewed radiographic interpretation of the abdomen. This lecture focused on differentiating obstructive versus non-obstructive gastrointestinal patterns and reviewed strategies for being able to determine whether or not surgical intervention is warranted. This webinar also reviewed how to perform helpful special procedures such as barium studies, pneumocolonograms, and the utility of three-view abdominal techniques.

April 1, 2015: CPR & RECOVER initiative

Do you fake a bathroom emergency during a stressful CPR event? Get tachycardiac and start hyperventilating yourself during a CPR code? In this 2-hour VETgirl online veterinary CE webinar Dr. Garret Pachtinger and Dr. Justine Lee reviewed updates in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the new RECOVER guidelines. Previous veterinary CPR guidelines were adapted from human protocols, often ineffective or even wrong when dealing with veterinary patients. Fortunately, veterinarians now have more objective and research oriented data to use when performing CPR. The Reassessment Campaign on Veterinary Resuscitation (RECOVER) is the first evidence-based consensus CPR guidelines for veterinary medicine.
