In this VETgirl online veterinary continuing education video, we review neonatal resuscitation in a puppy following a Caesarean section (C-section) in a dog. It is vital skill set for veterinary technicians, anesthetists, and staff to help during a C-section. Several staff members should be available for puppy “hand off” into another room set up for resuscitation (e.g., flow-by oxygen, blankets, gloves, warm towels, suction bulbs, heat support, appropriate drugs if needed – naloxone, epinephrine, atropine, etc.). Resuscitation will include gently ripping off/removing the amniotic sac, suctioning the mouth and nose, vigorously rub the neonate to stimulate it, and symptomatic supportive care.
